JUST BURGERS AND SUNRISE TACOS EACH WIN A GAME IN SOFTBALL

Sunday August 12th saw 19 players come out to the best softball field in Asia at the Thai Polo Club for the weekly Pattaya Sports Club Softball games. This week’s game featured a much needed component that had been missing from our game for a long time, an umpire! A very big thank you goes out to Brian “T Rex” Gavagan who volunteered to umpire for the next few months while he sits out with an injury. He did an outstanding job in his debut appearance behind the plate.

Our two super seniors were the stars of the day, George King of the Sunrise Tacos team played rock solid first base and hit a ball over the outfielder’s head. George “Chicka” Smith a super senior on the Just Burgers team batted supremely well in his first softball game in his life. Players and fans were treated to a Chicka’s signature celebratory moonwalk dance each time he reached base safely, which I must say was a sight to behold.

A Great Day for Pattaya Softball!

The chance of being able to see that again will be enough to bring me back next week. These two guys are both working on their 8th decade but approach the game with more enthusiasm and smiles than any other player on the field. I must add they were both using the same cool amber beverage to lubricate their joints. Sunrise Tacos prevailed over Just Burgers in the first game 12-8. The commissioner called in and requested a livelier ball in the second game, which allowed some bigger hits and more runs. Home runs by Tyler Best and first time player Alex T. allowed Just Burgers to eke out a 16-13 win over Sunrise Tacos.

No sooner did the game end than the weather turned wet, many of the guys used this as an excuse to stop on the way home to wait out the rain, quench their thirst and make friends with the locals. More than one even had to wait so long they felt it necessary, for a nominal extra charge, to wait in relaxed comfort in one of the rooms upstairs.

New Players Welcome!

PSC Softball is always looking for new players regardless of skill level, experience or time away from the game. We have players of all ages and many countries, who enjoy an afternoon of fun and exercise with a bunch of great guys. We have some spare gloves and everything
else you need, so come on out and check us out at the best softball field in Asia. We play every Sunday at 12 noon to about 4PM at the Thai Polo Club. What is the best place to live in Thailand?

What is the best place to live in Thailand?

The 3 best places to live in Thailand are Chiang Mai, Bangkok and the Island of Phuket.

Bangkok

Bangkok is the biggest city in Thailand and you’ll be able to find just about anything you want here.  There are lots of options for food, malls, movies, bars, clubs, you name it.  Any day of the week you can find something fun to do.  Rent prices range from $160 a month for a studio apartment up to $5,000 a month for a nice 4 bedroom luxurious condo near the city center.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is the 2nd biggest city in Thailand and its much more laid back than Bangkok and Phuket.  The lower end of rent prices are about the same as Bangkok however you can get something much nicer for 1/5 of the price.   Food prices are also less and life is simple and easy in Chiang Mai.  There are still lots of options for nightlife all nights of the week but they do become boring after you’ve been there a while.  Spicy Night Club is an after hours spot where many tourist and local bar girls hang out til 5am weekly.

Phuket

The Island of Phuket is very tourist compared to the other 2 cities.  If you like the beach, then this is the place for you.  Tuk tuks are very expensive here and you’ll be better off getting a motorbike to get around.  The cost of living is similar to Bangkok and as with most touristy places you can run into tourist prices for food quite often.   The nightlife is good, better than Chiang Mai, but it too can be very limited after a while.  Its also pretty dangerous with all of the motorbike injuries.

What is a Bar Girl in Thailand?

What is a Bar Girl in Thailand?

There are many areas in Thailand that have “tourist bars” more commonly referred to as “Girlie Bars”.  These bars employee girls that work there in an attempt to get tourist to buy drinks and stay at the bar.

Customers may ask the girl if she wants to go home with them.  If the girl agrees, the customer must pay the “bar fine” which is typically between 200-400 baht.   Anything else is up for negotiation between the customer and the girl.  1,000-2,000 baht is the typical asking price for sex and some girls will never bring it up.  However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t leave them with a minimum of 1,000 baht just because they don’t ask.

The reason they work at the “girlie bar” is so they can make money.  Some girls are shy and don’t like the idea of sex for money so they won’t bring it up, especially if they generally do like you.
