There’s something of a misconception when it comes to weddings, that they are primarily for women. This is a bride’s ‘big day’, the day she’s dreamed about for years since she was a little girl and her chance to look and feel like a princess. As such there will be flowers, there will be music and there will be huge displays of romance – just like something out of a Disney Movie. And because it’s her big day, if there are any disagreements as to what the décor should look like, who should be invited and what the band should be like; the woman will almost always win.
So where does this leave the guy? He’s spending a lot of money on this big day as well no doubt and will have to stand to ceremony. It’s going to be his guests there as well… so how do you make sure that as the groom at a wedding you manage to get some things your way and still enjoy the day? Without completely ruining it for your partner? Here are a few things you can do…
Think About What Makes You Comfortable

Chances are that if you’re like most guys, it’s not going to come terribly naturally to you to be romantic all day and surrounded by flowers and in-laws. Thus you’re likely to be somewhat nervous on the day and maybe feel like you’re out of your comfort zone – which won’t be great for your overall mood. In order to fix this, and to make sure that you feel calm and ready, try thinking about the things that make you feel comfortable and adding those to the day. For instance, maybe you love tea? In that case you could make your wedding a little more ‘you’ by having a nice cup of tea with dinner. Likewise you may love football – in which case why not see if you can name some of the tables that your guests sit at after football teams? Get your bride to concede on just a few elements like this, and you can feel much more relaxed on the day because you’re surrounded by things that you know. I got mine to agree to get married to the Rocky theme tune…
Use Your Voice
For me, one of the most off-putting aspects of a wedding is having words put in my mouth. You take on a role that is not ‘you’ and have to act in a certain way, all for the privilege of getting to spend lots of money and marry the person you love. A solution I’ve found has made me relax, is to instead use my own words more. By writing my vows, and by giving a speech where I express how I feel about the wedding and make jokes, I can be myself just a little more.
Feel Like a Boss

What can also help is to focus on the cooler aspects of the wedding that make you feel awesome. For instance the wedding limousine will make you feel like a celebrity, and the suit will make you feel like Bond…
