This will help them feel safer and calm your nerves.

You’ll need to help your child by holding the bike upright whilst they mount. Give them fewer things to worry about so they concentrate on balance. Encourage them and let them know that you are there and therefore there is no need to be scared.

Are you ready?

Ask your child if they feel comfortable to ride by themselves. Ask them to reach for their pedals and slowly pedal, hold on for a while and then when you can feel that they have their balance let them push off. Insure your child that you are still there.

Dust off

If they fall, help them get back on their bike. You don’t want to avoid completing the task at hand because they may get a slight phobia. If they don’t succeed, try again!

Together

You can choose to ride with your child or walk next to them, whatever you and they are comfortable with. Be prepared for many falls, it’s only natural.
