PokerStars’ 2012 VIP Program Changes
PokerStars’ announcement to increase the rake starting in 2012 has really caused a stir among the poker community. Thousands of regular PokerStars grinders stand to lose up to 30% of their earnings with this coming change.
Not the first time
In July, 2010, the French PokerStars site announced a rake increase to 7.5%. This outraged the local French residents and they were able to band together and protest the change. The French PokerStars site noticed such a drop in customers that the owner personally contacted the leader of the strike and agreed to make a deal. This decreased the rake down to 6.6% and the players returned.
Mass Sit-Out Planned Again
So what will happen this time? Players have already begun to plan a mass sit-out on January 1st, 2012 in order to fight back against PokerStars again. This time however, it is the worldwide site and since this announcement was late, there is concern that not enough regular grinders will agree in time to sit out. In order to make a stand, players have gotten together and agreed for the Mass-Sit out to occur right as the changes start.

pretty lame considering how much money these poker sites make, they should be doing everything to please the regular grinders
amazing that stars builds up such a dominant postion, has loyal grinders, a pristine reputation, excellent customer service… then does this. must be a change in top level management – did howard lederer get a new job??
agreed, they are just showing their true greed right now. I’ve always been loyal to stars, this is sickening

Even SNG players are advised to sit out, everyone! We will not play starting the year, if we don’t band together, we are screwed for 2012.
Very good move. Players who’ve been loyal to PokerStars for years cannot accept these sickening changes.
